Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during the first therapy appointment?

During our first therapy session, I like to ask some basic questions about your health, family, developmental history, school/job, trauma history, support systems, and safety. I think about it like getting a bird’s eye view of your life and your world. We will definitely talk about what brings you into therapy, and I hope to offer some solid strategies for you to start making improvements/changes in your life to bring relief.

Will you write me a letter for Gender Reaffirming Surgery or Treatment?

Absolutely! I’d be more than happy to meet with you to discuss this wonderful, exciting time in your life and to support you if you should need it!

Will you write me a letter for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)?

Yes. I fully believe in the calming and soothing of an Emotional Support Animal used by many people with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD, etc.

Can we meet in person vs. online?

As I work out of my home, I am not able to meet clients in person. The Covid pandemic taught us that virtual counseling was not only effective, but had many benefits to in person sessions - accessibility, convenience, and comfort.

How long does therapy take?

This is an excellent question. It’s difficult to tell as everyone and every circumstance is different. My goal is for my clients to heal so they may enjoy life and their relationships. This may take 12 sessions or longer. I believe strongly in the client being instrumental in deciding how therapy is going and when they will be completed. It’s normal to take breaks from therapy to try the new skills you’ve learned or when life becomes more balanced.

Can I use my insurance?

I have applied to be an In-Network Provider for Aetna, Excellus BCBS and Optum insurance companies. I can also provide Superbills so that you may receive Out-of-Network reimbursement from your insurance company. Payment will be due at time of service.

I want/need couples or family therapy - do you provide this?

I, unfortunately, do not specialize in couples or family therapy. Individual therapy is my strength. I’d be happy to refer you to a couples or family therapist.
